CORAL WAY:

  • That well-known winding avenue that connects busy Brickell and Downtown with Miracle Mile, and the heart of Coral Gables
  • Overflowing with its stately banyan trees that provide its pedestrians and drivers a canopy of shade and lend it a unique character unlike any in South Florida
  • One of the only historically protected streets in South Florida

    Enter URBANISM GROUP!!

URBANISM GROUP was one of the pioneers in the late 90’s to visualize the potential of the Coral Way corridor, to see beyond what was there, and to define a vision of what could be. URBANISM GROUP provided some of the early inspiration to create a plan that could bring about positive change, and assembled a team that included:  City of Miami elected officials and planning staff, neighborhood groups, both residential and commercial, Coral Way merchants, and city planning consultants.

Today, one can see the beginning rumblings of the Coral Way explosion. Architectural standards have been tightened, streetscapes are being invested in and improved, the pavement has undergone a costly but thorough repair, the beautiful banyans are being up lit with night lights, the old non-descript storefronts are being transformed into quaint but upscale commercial properties, and the older apartments and offices are being replaced by new elegantly handsome residential units coming out of the ground like mushrooms. As property values there soar, Coral Way is being transformed from a corridor to a destination – one with a unique, historic and very special tropical yet metropolitan charm.

URBANISM GROUP was directly responsible for assembling and designing Gables Marquis, a wildly successful mixed-use development of retail and residential at the corner of 32nd Avenue and Coral Way.  Because URBANSIM GROUP actually invested in its Coral Way vision, it was much easier to assemble and motivate the team of individuals, consultants and organizations to execute the plan that has transformed Coral Way.

Indeed, the  Gables Marquis and Coral Way example is a microcosm of what can be done – and what URBANISM GROUP did - to transform areas of our City into updated and popular answers to the needs of a population that is shifting from suburban commuting to urban vitality and 24 hour living.
